Richard started his career at Coventry City in 2003 and spent two years at the club without making a first team appearance. He spent much of his time out on loan, having spells at Tamworth, Stafford Rangers and Hednesford Town.
In 2005/06 Richard signed for Shrewsbury Town before moving on to Nuneaton Borough that same season. In March 2006 Richard arrived in the League of Ireland when he signed for Sligo Rovers.
Richard made his debut for Sligo against Shelbourne in July 2006 and made 7 league appearances in his debut season. He would make 115 league appearances in his five year stay at the Showgrounds but injuries plagued his final eighteen months at the club and at the end of the 2010 season he was released by the club.
He returned to league action in July 2011 when he was signed by Michael O'Neill for Shamrock Rovers to cover the departure of first choice keeper Alan Mannus. Richard made 7 league appearances for the Hoops as they claimed the League title and he also played in the Europa League game against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane.
At the end of the 2011 season Richard was released by Shamrock Rovers and in January 2012 he re-signed for Paul Cook at Sligo Rovers. Sligo won the league that year but Richard made just 1 league appearance, sitting unused on the bench 26 times as Gary Rogers kept the number one shirt to himself. In December 2012 Richard returned to Shamrock Rovers, signing for new boss Trevor Croly. He made 14 league appearances for the Hoops in 2013 but did not play in any of the club's three Cup final wins and left at the end of the season to once again return to Sligo Rovers, signing for Ian Baraclough on 6 December.
However, Gary Rogers was still holding onto the no.1 jersey at Sligo and Richard was restricted to 6 league appearances in 2014, in which he kept one clean sheet, as Sligo finished fifth in the league. He remained at the Showgrounds under Owen Heary in 2015 and made 27 league appearances for the Bit O' Red, keeping seven clean sheets, as Sligo finished ninth in the Premier Division. He left the club at the end of the season and signed for Finn Harps in February 2016.
Richard made his first appearance for Finn Harps against eventual league champions Dundalk on 11 March 2016 and made 19 league appearances in a season that saw Ollie Horgan's side defy the odds and stay in the top division having won promotion the previous year. But Richard stayed for just the one season and in January 2017 he signed for Ballinamallard United.
Brush announced his retirement in May 2018, following the Mallards' relegation to the Championship, but reversed his decision in July as he signed a deal with Cliftonville.
