Paul’s Biography

Paul is an English-born player who spent time at West Ham United and Sutton United in London, before transferring to Saint Patrick’s Athletic in 2001. He first came to prominence on the League of Ireland stage for all the wrong reasons during the 2001-02 season when his improper registration with the Saints ended in a court case which the club eventually won after they had been initially deducted nine points by the league. The Inchicore club went on to lose out on the league title to Shelbourne after they had been deducted fifteen points later in the season for another registration problem, with Marney and his team-mates receiving rubber medals as a token for the title they ‘won’.

The following season, Marney made 16 appearances, however, he was signed by Trevor Anderson for First Division Dundalk in the 2003 transfer window, making his debut against Galway United. He helped with the Lilywhites ‘promotion win’ of 2006 and was also part of the Dundalk squad that won the First Division title in 2008.
