Friendly: UCD 1 - 6 Dundalk

UCD were comprehensively beaten on Friday night by a strong looking Dundalk side who had goals from Mountney, Shields, Finn and Towell to thank for a 6-1 victory.
Dundalk started the brighter of the two sides with their up-tempo passing style being dictated by the influential Richie Towell.
The goals began to flow for the current League of Ireland Champions shortly after the quarter of an hour mark when John Mountney blasted an effort home from just outside the box.
Just two minutes later two yards further to the right of where Mountney scored, it was the turn of centre back Chris Shields to finish past Niall Corbet.
Shortly after the half hour mark it was the turn of former Student and Shamrock Rovers midfielder Ronan Finn to convert following a mistake from Maxi Kougoun in the UCD back line.
With Dundalk continuing to press for a fourth before half time the new Dundalk signing Finn slotted beyond the helpless Corbet for a second time in ten minutes.
Richie Towell, who Dundalk fans will be pretty happy to see back in a Lilywhites jersey, scooped home on the hour mark after some good play by Finn created the chance for his team mate to tap into an open net.
Jake Kelly should have made it six just moments later when Finn was once again the architect but Kelly was thwarted by the onrushing Mackay. From this opening display Finn and Towell will form one of the most formidable midfield partnerships this league has seen in many years.
With the game winding down and the crowd’s attention slipping, Towell brought some life back into the contest with a cracking free-kick into the left hand corner of the net.
Just before the final whistle Gary O’Neill did get a consolation goal for UCD after he tapped in a cross from the left hand side of the pitch.
