Matt played for Cliftonville during the 2010/11 and 2011/12 Irish League seasons, but was released by the Belfast club in May 2012. He then spent four weeks training with Derry City before officially signing for the Candydtripes in July. He remained with Derry until the end of the 2012 season but his only first team involvement was as an unused substitute and he joined Glenavon in January 2013. He later played for Portadown before returning to the League Of Ireland in January 2015 with Drogheda United.

Matthew went on to make two substitute appearances for Drogheda United in the 2015 Premier Division, coming on in losses against Derry City and Sligo Rovers, before he left the club in June 2015.
