A classy performance from Malaga saw them emerge 2-1 winners from today's second Elite Boys 1997 semi final against Valerenga at the UMBRO Galway Cup.

Goals from Arturo Segado Munoz and David Ramos Guillen were enough to secure the victory and capped a wonderful passing performance from the Spanish side.

Malaga built patiently, and had their first clear first clear chance 5 minutes in. Joaquin Ortiz Soto won the ball in the middle of the park and slipped a beautiful pass through to Jose Sanchez Martin, who couldn't quite find the finish.

The opener came 5 minutes later as Manuel Sarmiento Cantarero got to the by-line down the left before centring for Munoz to score.

Malaga continued to retain possession for the remainder of the half, moving it around smoothly and keeping their shape at all times.

Chances were few and far between though, with a shot over the bar from Victor Martin Barranquera all they had to show for their efforts.

The second half was barely 2 minutes old when the Spaniards got their second. A ball into the box from the right caused panic at the heart of the Valerenga defence and Guillen held his head in the melee to slot home under Emil Holst.

The Norwegians, to their credit, fought bravely and got their reward when Malaga's Javier Ontiveros Parra committed a foul in the area; Andreas Nordheim strokedthe penalty home coolly.

That was as close as Valerenga got to the Spaniards who resumed their passing game. They looked particularly threatening down left.

The closest they came to a third goal followed a barnstorming run from Jose Luis Munoz, who beat several defenders before finding Guillen. The forward was unable to put it away and there were to be few further chances.

Malaga progress to Saturday's Elite Plate final, where they will take on Manchester City.
