Cooke - Defeat is not the end of the world

An impressive display from Sligo Rovers on Saturday evening ended Drogheda United’s six game winning streak, with Drogheda manager Mick Cooke saying Sligo’s performance was “the best performance I’ve seen all season”.

Rovers dominated the game and were impressive in all areas on the pitch, giving Drogs little chance on the night. Cooke was disappointed with the way his side conceded a number of goals.

“I’m disappointed but Sligo were good. We came into the game on a six game winning streak but it’s got to come to an end sometime. I was just disappointed with the way it ended. I felt we contributed to our own downfall with some of the goals we gave away. That’s not taking anything away from Sligo, we would’ve had to be at our very best to get something out of that game.”

However, the former Monaghan manager was very complementary of the opposition.

“Our lads now know how they have to perform to be at that level. Great credit to Sligo, they were excellent on the night, don’t think they made too many mistakes. The important thing is for us to get back on track. It’s not the end of the world.”
