English Championship side Blackburn Rovers will travel to Cork for a preseason friendly against Cork City on Sunday August 12 at 3pm.

Tickets for the game will go on sale on Tuesday morning at Bishopstown and can be purchased online through Ticketmaster for €10 and €5 for concessions.

Blackburn were relegated from the Premier League last season and manager Steve Kean feels that a friendly against City is perfect preparation for a season in the Championship.

He said: “We are having a short stay at Fota Island Resort where we will be able to do some training so to have a game against one of Ireland’s top clubs a week ahead of the start of our season is the ideal preparation for us.

“The match will certainly be a competitive one as Cork City are in the middle of their season, so physically they will be at the top level.

"We are away to Ipswich Town in our first fixture so it is important for us to end pre-season with a performance that gives us momentum going into the campaign.”

And City manager Tommy Dunne is looking forward to the fixture at Turner’s Cross.

“This is another attractive fixture for us and for our fans," he said.

"Blackburn is a top club with some excellent players and the fact that the game is being played so close to the start of the English season means Turner’s Cross will see the Blackburn side in peak condition. It will be a good test for our young squad.”
