Sporting Fingal -v- Limerick

Sporting Fingal continue on their road back to the FAI Ford Cup final tonight as they welcome Limerick to Morton Stadium.

This clash will see fourth in the Premier Division face off against fourth in the First Division.

Neither side have any suspension worries going into the game with Limerick boss Pat Scully looking from an improved performance from his side after their defeat at the hands of Derry City.

“We just didn’t perform against Derry last Friday night, Derry were very professional on the night and we have to learn from it. This weekend we are up against an excellent outfit in Sporting Fingal and we will have to be at our very best to get into the quarter final.”

Fingal could have Colin Hawkins available for the first time since he broke his ribs during the Europa League Qualifier against CS Maritimo.

The vastly experienced centre back will face a late fitness test and manger Liam Buckley hopes he’ll be the remedy to Fingal’s recent leaking of late goals.

Speaking during the week Buckley was wary of the challenge facing his side.

“We were in the same position as Limerick last season insofar as they’ll want to belie their tag of underdogs against a top-flight side,” he said.

“From our perspective, the memories our last season’s triumph remain with the players who enjoyed that occasion and I’m certain that they, along with our pre-season recruits, will want to repeat last year’s heroics by marching on towards the final which has the extra caret of being played in the Aviva Stadium.

“Those ambitions can only be maintained with a strong display tonight against a Limerick side very much in the ascendancy.”
