Late goal delights Mulcahy

Saint Patrick’s Athletic’s Dave Mulcahy expressed his delight on his late equaliser in Sunday’s Dublin derby against Sporting Fingal as it lifted the Saints to the top of the Airtricity League.
On a personal note though, the Kilkenny man extended his recent goalscoring form, adding to his two goals that he scored against Dundalk last weekend. Speaking exclusively to Extratime, Mulcahy spoke of his delight.
“Unreal, I was due one for a while and I’d been threatening a couple of times, but it always comes together. It was brilliant, absolutely delighted as it was a great time to score.”
However despite Mulcahy’s own personal success, he was quick to point out that the point the Inchicore side earned was of much more importance. “Well I’ll be expecting the rest of the lads to score regularly, but it keeps us right there on the edge of Shamrock Rovers and Bohemians, we want to be realistic about this so we’re delighted with the 1-1.”
Mulcahy is a fans’ favourite in Inchicore, having played previously under Johnny McDonnell, not least for his ability to slot into different positions when needed. Without the injured Shane Guthrie this weekend, Mulcahy played alongside Conor Kenna at centre back. The change from his usual midfield position this season was no problem, according to Mulcahy.
“Centre half is my position, it’s just the last couple of years I’ve been pushed into midfield, so I’m quite comfortable playing there, but I’m happy to play. As long as you’re playing and the manager keeps picking you, you don’t mind where you play.”
Saints manager Pete Mahon stressed that the Saints games against Dundalk, Sporting Fingal and Bohemians would be crucial. Mulcahy was quick to point out that despite four points from six, the Saints needed to keep pushing on, especially in their game against league champions Bohemians next week
“These are crucial games. It’ll tell us what the team is like, the two games just gone and the Bohs game coming up. Like I say, if we get anything in the Bohs game, it keeps us involved. No one is writing us off just yet, but we’re still there and we’ll see what happens.”
