League Preview: Wexford -v- Longford Town

WEXFORD

Wexford will be looking to close the gap on league leaders Cork City on Tuesday night when they host Longford Town at Ferrycarrig Park (kick-off is at 7.45pm).

The Slaneysiders were due to face Longford at home in February but the game was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at the time.

Since then, Wexford have recovered from a poor start when they lost 3-0 away to Athlone Town on the opening night of the season.

James Keddy’s troops have won their last two games and are unbeaten in their last five outings.

But they are likely to be without Max Kelly and Sean McHale for Tuesday’s clash against Longford.

LONGFORD TOWN

Managerless Longford Town head to the South-East in a cloud following the departure of boss Stephen Henderson on Saturday night.

Henderson parted ways with the club after a 3-0 loss at home to Bray Wanderers - which meant they have endured their worst start to a season since the 1990-91 campaign.

The Red and Black have lost five of their first eight games of the year and have drawn their other three outings.

Wayne Groves has subsequently taken charge of the first-team squad as the club hunt for a permanent successor.

And Groves’ task will not be made any easier with a host of players still expected to be out.

Midfielder Viktor Serdeniuk, forward Dean George and defender Aaron Walsh are expected to remain sidelined with injuries.

Referee: Jason Moore.
