Former Cork City defender Sean McLoughlin returns to Hull City after completing St Mirren loan

Hull City have confirmed that defender Sean McLoughlin has returned to the English Championship club after completing his loan spell with Scottish Premiership side St Mirren.

The 23-year-old Irish defender joined Hull from Cork City in July 2019 before immediately departing for the temporary move to Scotland.

McLoughlin was an ever-present for the Buddies, one of only three players to play in all 21 of the Premiership matches they’ve played thus far this season.

Last month, he was featured in BT Sport’s SPFL Team of the Week after scoring his only goal for the club in a 2-1 win over Ross County.

McLoughlin departs St Mirren with the club lying tenth in the league table, one point above the relegation zone.

Hull, meanwhile, are 12th in the Championship, three points off a play-off spot after Sunday’s two-one win away to QPR.

A statement from St Mirren noted that McLoughlin had become a ‘key player’ for them during his time there and added; “The club would like to thank Sean for his contributions and wish him all the best for his future career.”
