JD Welsh Premiership Round-up - TNS open up three-point lead

Now a third of the way through the season, the JD Welsh Premier League is shaping up nicely into the various battles - title race, European play-off and relegation.

The top two sides battled it out last weekend with the New Saints (the holders, who have won six titles back-to-back) coming out on top versus Cardiff Metropolitan University.

Cardiff Met had the better of the chances in the first half but couldn't make them count.

In the second half, the only full-time outfit in the league punished Met as Routledge and Draper scored twice in six minutes to put the game to bed after 78 minutes. Roscrow's quick reply couldn't be doubled.

At the bottom, Camarthen lost to Bala and are already seven points adrift of safety. Bala's 1-0 victory keeps them within touching distance of the European play-offs spots, which stretch from second place to sixth.

Jordan Evans, of Carmathen scored goal of the weekend with this screamer.

Connah's Quay Nomads leapfrogged Cardiff Met into third on Sunday with a 1-0 victory at Barry Town United. George Horan got an early goal for the Nomads to seal the win.

In mid-table Llandudno beat Newtown 2-1, while Bangor City saw defeat at the hands of Cefn Druids. Aberyswyth kept in touching distance of safety with a crucial win over relegation rivals Prestatyn.

The play-offs are shaping up nicely with only six points seperating second to sixth but, sadly, TNS's win over Cardiff Met opens an early three-point gap at the top of the table as the Welsh-English side go in search of their seventh title on the spin.
