Cobh haven’t won since a stunning league return on the opening night of the season when they stuck five past Wexford Youths. They were brought back down to earth the following week as Finn Harps hit them for four in Finn Park, while away draws against Athlone and Salthill saw them move onto five points from five games.

In between those two drawn games they let a 3-1 lead at home to Longford slip as the league leaders struck three times in the final 25 minutes to grab all three points.

Conor Meade has been in good scoring form having hit the net five times in those opening five games, while ex Cork City striker Davin O’Neill has also chipped in with three goals.

MERVUE UNITED

Mervue United are on the road for the second weekend in a row as they make their first ever trip to St Colman’s Park to face seventh placed Cobh Ramblers on Saturday night in the Airtricity First Division.

Johnny Glynn’s side have proven a hard side to beat in the opening five games of the season having accumulated two wins and three draws and they remain second in the table even after last night’s other games. In fact they are on a run of nine league games without defeat as Limerick were the last side to defeat them in the league last September.

With two draws against league leaders Longford Town and third placed Finn Harps, Glynn’s side have shown they have the squad to match any side in this season’s second tier. Jason Molloy scored his second goal of the new season as they came from a goal down to secure a 1-1 draw away to Longford Town last Saturday night.

Defenders Marc Ludden and Paul Sinnott both return to the squad for this weekend’s game having been unavailable for the 1-1 draw in Longford last weekend, but Martin Conneely will definitely miss out having sustained a leg injury in that game.

Manager Glynn on Saturday night’s game “We face another tough away game this week with a trip to Cobh who will be very hard to beat with home advantage. We are looking to build on our performances each week and I think we have been doing that so far this season having had two hard games against Finn Harps and Longford and can expect another one on Saturday night”.

Mervue United are on a run of nine league games without a defeat. Last league defeat was a 4-0 away defeat to Limerick in early September 2012.
