Allez Les Blues! They advance to the final this Sunday in Moscow. They showed admirable poise and discipline throughout the second half. When Belgium came back at them, they were able to stand firm and break at pace. They looked more likely towards the end to add to it. Perhaps Giroud could and should have added to the lead.

What may have been for Belgium. They had to work so hard for any opportunity but were never able to make something of it. They now have to face into a third place play-off on Saturday. A chance to match the 1986 generation.

Time for either Croatia or England to step up now tomorrow night. From extra time and Philip Morrissey, good night.

90' + 6'

FULL TIME!

The game has ended between France and Belgium.

90' + 5'

Great by Pogba. He intercepts the ball before playing it wide to Tolisso. His shot is tipped wide by Courtois.

90' + 3'

Yellow Card

Jan Vertonghen is booked for Belgium.

90' + 3'

90' + 2'

Yellow Card

Kylian Mbappé is booked for France.

90' + 1'

No rush for France now. Pogba is fouled near the corner flag. Belgium intercept but the ball had gone out.

90'

Substitution

Nacer Chadli replaces Michy Batshuayi for Belgium.

88'

A free-kick is played in by De Bruyne. It pings around the box, bouncing off a couple of players, before being hacked clear. The ball is played back in and just over the head of Lukaku. Close but not close enough

87'

Yellow Card

N'Golo Kanté is booked for France.

85'

Substitution

Corentin Tolisso replaces Blaise Matuidi for France.

84'

Substitution

Steven Nzonzi replaces Olivier Giroud for France.

81'

Hazard and Matuidi collide in midfield. Just a coming together in an attempt to win the ball. The Frenchman looks in pain and will probably come off.

80'

Substitution

Yannick Ferreira Carrasco replaces Marouane Fellaini for Belgium.

77'

Mbappe again causing concern for Belgium. He collects a pass from Pogba before sweeping past Fellaini. He pulls him back but no yellow

75'

Roberto Martinez really needs to earn his corn now at the moment. Belgium are struggling to really get behind France and they need to change things up. Yannick Carrasco looks like he might be coming on.

73'

All French players behind the ball now. They sense the possibility emulating the class of 98. Great discipline from them.

70'

Patient build up by Belgium. They pass it around between a number of players before Mertens again is the outlet. His cross his headed clear by Pogba. France break and Alderweireld is called up for trying to stop them

70'

Yellow Card

Toby Alderweireld is booked for Belgium.

67'

France break again. Pogba wins the ball to play it out to Mbappe. He advances forward to play it to Griezmann. His lay-off goes sky high by Giroud. Not working out for the Chelsea man so far.

64'

Mertens is at it again. His cross finds Fellaini who heads it goalwards but frustratingly past the post.

63'

Yellow Card

Eden Hazard is booked for Belgium.

61'

Belgium come forward again. It is played wide to Mertens by Lukaku. It is towards Fellaini and co. Varane heads out. De Bryune seems poised to strike but Pogba puts him off. Should show more courage there.

60'

Substitution

Dries Mertens replaces Moussa Dembélé for Belgium.

57'

Mbappe is again causing panic. His speeds down the line only to be beaten to it by Fellaini.

56'

Mbappe flicks the ball around the corner deliciously into Giroud. Courtois comes out and blocks his effort though. French on fire.

54'

Thou shall not pass. Hazard breaks from a French corner, only to be bundled unceremoiusly down. What we have, we hold.

51'

This has the touchpaper lit! Griezmann swings in a corner. Umtiti outjumps Fellaini to head into the top corner. The first decent delivery so far results in the break-through.

51'

GOAL!

Samuel Umtiti scores for France.

50'

Good defending again. This time by Vincent Kompany. Giroud is found inside the area. He turns and shoots but Kompany blocks his effort for a corner.

47'

Witsel plays the ball into the area. Lukaku jumps for it but Varane beats him to it. Good defending.

46'

Second Half

The second half between France and Belgium has started.

45' + 1'

Who would you possibly introduce? Dembele, Lemarr, Mendy await their call for France. Mertens, Carrasco, Batshuayi equally for Belgium.

45' + 1'

Akin to a game of chess at the moment. Albeit one that is played by the best. The ball has been stroked around wonderfully at times. The threat down the flanks is clear to see. Both have had joy in that area. France are perhaps on top in midfield. They are outnumbering their opposition and have had a lot of joy on occasions. Neither have found that killer touch or pass just yet. Kudos to both goalkeepers for splendid saves and cool heads.

45' + 1'

Half Time

It is half-time between France and Belgium.

45'

Inches away! De Bruyne plays the ball in. Lukaku expects Umtiti to clear but instead he has an air shot. The Manchester United striker desperately tries to react in time but it is just past him.

43'

Moussa Dembele is caught out there. Griezmann plays in Pogba with a delightful flick. Pogba charges towards the box before being dragged back. No caution either. The free is wasted unfortunately.

41'

The crossing is letting both sides down at times. Chadli is guilty of another poor effort that strikes the first man.

39'

Good save! Pavard has had issues at the other end but can certainly take a shot. Argentina found that out. Mbappe finds him overlapping down the right and his angled shot hits the legs of Courtois. Griezmann was screaming for it however.

36'

France break from a corner. Griezmann takes possession and surges forward. He waits and waits until eventually taking a shot which goes past the post. It could be said other players were in an offside position and had no choice but to shoot. He could have played it earlier though

33'

He should be doing better there. Mbappe is found with a wonderful through ball. He charges down the line before laying it inside to Giroud. His touch is miscued past the post. Under pressure it has to be said.

32'

Lucas Herandez has done well down the left. This time he plays in Griezmann who skies his effort. Wrong foot probably.

30'

He knew what he was doing there. Jan Vertonghen is beaten for pace after Mbappe flicks it around him. He impeded him but escaped a card. Not a warning though. Giroud flicks a header past the post from the resulting free-kick.

27'

Benjamin Pavard is having a tough evening so far for France. He is beaten again by Hazard but the attempted cross is cleared by Umtiti.

25'

Umtiti tries to find Giroud but the ball is far to long. The striker does not have the pace of Mbappe either.

22'

Great save! Well done Hugo Lloris. Oliver Giroud fails to clear properly. Toby Alderwerield swivels and shots. The Belgians expect to see the net bulge but the Spurs keeper pulls off a remarkable save.

19'

Hazard takes a shot from the edge of the area. It flicks up over the post thanks to the intervention of Raphael Varane. Fellaini was challenging for it also. Nearly a disaster for the Real Madrid man.

17'

Blaise Matuidi has a shot from distance following a corner. It is straight at Courtois but sting behind it.

15'

Belguim show again. Axel Witsel wins the ball before laying it off to De Bryune. He skips past Kante but his ball to Lukaku is poor. Not long after Hazard is found on the left and decides to take a shot. It goes just past the post. Lukaku is again left waiting.

13'

More good work from Pogba. He beats his man for pace before a great through ball into Mbappe. His pace burns past Kompany and Vertonghen. He is one-on-one but Courtois comes out and blocks the chance.

12'

Paul Pogba wins the ball from Fellaini before clipping it into Mbappe. Despite being in plenty of room, he tries to find Oliver Giroud and it is snuffed out.

8'

Both teams seem to be cancelling each other out as it stands. Relying on the counter attack with the pace in each

5'

First piece of skill from Edin Hazard. He skins his opponent and plays in a dangerous cross. With Lukaku lurking, Samuel Umtiti is forced to clear. Almost into his own net. The resulting corner is wasted though.

3'

Much of the talk beforehand concerned the Belgian line-up. It looks like Hazard and De Bryune will play either side of Lukaku. In more of a 4-3-3 set-up. Will De Bryune be isolated playing on the left?

1'

Kylian Mbappe runs straight at the defense and almost sets up Antoine Griezmann. Cleared though. Within the first ten seconds

1'

GAME ON!

The game between France and Belgium has kicked off.

0'

A hearty rendition of both national anthems. A warm evening and both teams in form. Lets hope it lives up to expectations.

0'

Blaise Matuidi returns to the French side after suspension. He replaces Corentin Tolisso. Mbappe and Ngolo Kante recover from knocks to take their place.

For Belgium, Moussa Dembele gets the nod to replace Thomas Meunier. Nacer Chadli moves to the left. Him and Fellani keep their spots after impressing upon introduction against Japan.

0'

France have been here before of course. As recently as 2006 when they reach the final. Belgium, meanwhile, have had to wait since 1986. Indeed, the game against Japan saw their first knock-out win since then. Can their so-called 'Golden Generation' make that step-up?

0'

Good evening and welcome to the first semi-final of this years World Cup. My name is Philip Morrissey and I will be providing the updates for Extra Time.

It is set to be a fascinating encounter between these sides. They might be neighbours, and rivals, but it is a friendly rivalry. Whether that is the case aat the end, remains to be seen. The presence of Thierry Henry on the Belgian coaching staff is an interesting story. Could the French World cup winner help bring down his native country? Dider Deschamps will certainly be aware of that.

Both teams are undefeated to this point and highly fancied before the tournament. Belgium are the top goalscorers with fourteen goals. France, meanwhile, set the knock-out phase alive with the victory against Argentina and then against Uruguay. Now is the time to reach the final step. To come this far and not reach the final can be heartbreaking. Neither of these sides will wish to experience that feeling.
