LIMERICK
Still without a League win over three months into the season, Limerick can put those woes behind them temporarily with a win against Avondale United in the Munster Senior Cup Final, kick-off is 2pm in Askeaton.
Fridays defeat against high-flying Bohemians means it’s now seven defeats in a dozen League outings, with their last win coming against Cork City in the semi-final. Limerick defeated Leeds in the quarter final.
Martin Russell is expected to make several changes to the starting XI, though his thin squad should mean that it is merely the substitutes from Friday night who feature together with a number of regulars.
With confidence seemingly at a low, Sunday could represent the ideal opportunity to turn around their fortunes as the Blues look to climb off the foot of the table.
Limerick will look to win the trophy for the first time since 2012, when they defeated Cork City at Jackman Park, 1-0.
Sean Harding would appear to be the only doubt for Martin Russell’s side.
AVONDALE UNITED
The Cork side come into this final after a tough season. United are languishing just above the relegation zone with five games to go in the Munster Senior League Premier Division.
Despite this they will be hopeful of an upset on Limerick’s Desmond League grounds on Sunday afternoon, especially given Limericks struggles thus far. Their semi-final win over First Division Cobh Ramblers was a narrow 2-1 win, but shows what they are capable of achieving.
Roy Long and Ray Lally were the goalscorers in that game, while Long will be hoping for similar service from his brother Danny in this final.
Avondale were runners up in 2013 and 2005, but have yet to taste success in the Munster FA run competition.
