Gareth’s Biography

Gareth played underage football with Home Farm before starting hs professional career in England with Aston Villa in 1992. He also played with Rotherham United (loan), Everton, Bolton Wanderers, Burnley (loan), Bradford City (loan), and Wigan Athletic before returning to Ireland to become player/manager at Bohemians in August 2004. He made 41 league appearances in his two years with the Gypsies but was sacked in August 2006 following an FAI Cup defeat to Shamrock Rovers.

Gareth returned to England and had a brief spell at Leicester City before signing for Blackpool in November 2006. He made just 1 league appearance for the Tangerines and left when his contract expired in February 2007.

Gareth signed for Cork City on 15 February 2007 but was unable to play for the first six months of his contract due to FIFA’s 3 club ruling. He went on to make 21 league appearances before being diagnosed with a pancreatic tumor which was operated on in May 2008.

Gareth had his contract terminated by the club in October 2008 and he successfully sued for unfair dismissal. But he remained out of the game until 2010 when he played 5 times for English non-league side Warrington Town.
