90' + 3'

FULL TIME!

All over here and the final Midlands El Classico ends in a draw.

90' + 3'
Longford's Craig Walsh had a chance to snatch a late winner but Pat Jennings denies him.

90' + 1'
Athlone very nearly took the lead here but lucky for Longford Jordan Conroy put his effort wide but was flagged for offside.

90'
There will be at least 3 minutes additional time to be played at the end of this half.

89'
It has been a game of two halves and Athlone have been by far the best team in the second half.

87'

Substitution

Athlone Sub - Jordan Conroy is on for Mark McGoldrick.

86'
Athlone substitute Ian Sweeney has a shot but Craig Hyland saves. Sweeney has made an impact since his introduction in the 71st minute.

85'
A few of us here in the pressbox are a bit baffled by that change from Longford. O'Reilly is a defender and he's replacing a forward. Though it does give Mark Salmon the change to push up into midfield.

84'

Substitution

Longford Sub - Niall O'Reilly is on for Tony Griffiths.

81'
Athlone have been a far better side in this second half and deserve to be on level terms.

78'
It's game on here. Athlone have their tails up since that goal.

75'

GOAL!

Athlone are level. A corner from the left was headed home by Neil Harney. Gave Longford keeper Craig Hyland no chance.

74'
Noel McGee's header across goal is fisted out for a corner by Longford keeper Craig Hyland. From the resulting corner the keeper easily gathers.

72'
Craig Walsh tests Pat Jennings reflexes with a stinging shot. The keeper does well to stop it.

71'

Substitution

Athlone Sub - Ian Sweeney comes on for Shane Dunne.

70'
Phew a let-off for Longford. Neil Harney had a glorious opportunity to level the game but he blasts his shot wide when it was so much easier to score.

67'
Thomas Crawley's corner from the right is headed down by Tony Griffiths, it falls to Jamie Duffy but his shot is stopped on the line.

67'
Alan Kirby's crossfield ball finds Tony Griffiths and he brings a save out of Athlone keeper Pat Jennings.

66'
Mark McGoldrick takes a shot from distance that hits the side netting. Longford were a little slack at the back there.

65'

Yellow Card

Athlone midfielder Shane Dunne receives a yellow card.

65'
Craig Walsh finds space to take a shot but it's a woeful effort that goes well wide of the target.

64'
Athlone are beginning to come more into this game. Longford defence know they'll have to stand firm.

63'
Good news for Longford supporters James is okay and able to continue.

62'

Substitution

Longford Sub - Jamie Duffy comes on for Karl Bermingham.

61'

Substitution

Athlone Sub - Brian Gill comes on for Eric Molloy.

60'
Colm James is down injured at the moment and receiving treatment. For Longford supporters I hope it's nothing serious.

57'
Craig Walsh decides to take a shot but his effort is blocked by Ross Kenny. I have to say I've been impressed with Kenny tonight. He has played very well for his side.

54'
It's nice to see how popular this website is. There are a number of Longford Town supporters here with the site open on their phones keeping an eye on proceedings in Limerick.

52'
Away from the action here but indirectly LOI related, I'd like to wish Bray Wanderers supporter and East Coast reporter Padraic Moran all the very best in the Paralympics. He's in action Sunday in Boccia.

50'
The corner then comes to nothing.

49'
Thomas Crawley takes a crack from about 25 yards out which is excellently tipped over the bar by Athlone keeper Pat Jennings.

46'

Second Half

Longford get the second half underway.

45' + 1'

Half Time

It's tea-time here and the visitors go in at the break 1-0 in front.

45'
Thomas Crawley - who has been very good so far - plays in a neat ball across the goals but unfortunately the visitors there's no one there to get onto the end of it.

44'

Yellow Card

Damien Rushe is booked for Athlone Town.

43'
Colm James' early goal was his 6th league goal of the season and he's now level with the injured Daniel Purdy as the Town's top scorer.

41'

Yellow Card

Kevin Williamson is booked for Athlone Town.

40'
Athlone nearly get on level terms. Noel McGee plays in Mark McGoldrick, he put his effort past Craig Hyland but the ball drifted wide of the target and it was cleared.

32'
Good defending by Mark Salmon to clear the danger with Athlone's Mark McGoldrick in a dangerous position.

29'
A high ball into the box by Athlone defender Damien Rushe is punched away by Longford keeper Craig Hyland.

28'

Yellow Card

Athlone defender and former Longford player Brian McCarthy becomes the first player to get booked.

25'
Longford very nearly make it 2-0. Thomas Crawley with a neat ball to Karl Bermingham, the ball over the top caught the Athlone defence out. Bermingham took his shot but with Pat Jennings beaten defender Ross Kenny came rushing back to literally clear the ball off the line.

23'
Colm James must like scoring against Athlone. He scored a contender for goal of the season down here earlier this year.

21'

GOAL!

The deadlock is broken here in Athlone. Michael Lee put a superb ball into the box to Tony Griffiths, he played it into the path of Colm James who made no mistake with a fantastic strike.

19'
Athlone Town go into this game without a win in six games. While Longford defeated Mervue 2-0 in their last game. The sides had a break last weekend due to the FAI Cup. I'd say Longford wished they'd had a game because Gary Shaw and Daniel Purdy both broke their ankles last weekend at training - Friday and then Monday night. How unfortunate for them.

15'
Just looking at both line-ups, Athlone fans will be happy to see them playing first of all with a striker and second of all playing two up front - Noel McGee and Mark McGoldrick. Longford Town's strike parternship is a little weird, something many didn't predict - Thomas Crawley is up front with Tony Griffiths. Many felt it would be Karl Bermingham with Griffiths.

14'
Karl Bermingham has a chance for Longford, his effort is spilled by Pat Jennings, Thomas Crawley came rushing in, hits his shot wide but it doesn't matter because the referee has called for a free out.

10'
Longford have started the better but haven't tested Athlone keeper Pat Jennings. Craig Walsh is just after having a shot but his low effort went well wide. He actually had time to hit a better strike.

9'
There's a new man in the Athlone dug-out tonight. Padraig Moran is taking charge following the sacking of Mike Kerley during the week. How he would dearly love a win against Athlone's biggest rivals in his first game as caretaker manager.

8'
It's Longford who lead in the head to head this season with two wins, the other game ended in a draw. That was the last encounter between these two sides.

5'
Brian McCarthy fouls Thomas Crawley and Craig Walsh takes the free-kick but the big defender does well to clear the danger away.

GAME ON!

Athlone Town get the Midlands El Grand Classico underway.

0'
The teams are now out on the pitch. Have to say a very poor crowd here this evening. It's a nice evening, no rain so there's no excuse not to come out to a game.

0'
Two new faces on the Longford Town bench - Aidan Collins and Aaron Brilly. Tony Cousins has also had to put coach Gary Cronin on the bench, the experienced defender hasn't played much this season due to his coaching duties.

0'
There's plenty of change to both sides. Athlone have Joe Woods, Sean Skelly and Niall Scullion suspended while Paul Danaher and Stephen Last are out injured. Longford have really been dealt a blow in recent weeks. Joining Jeff Flood, Austin Skelly and Noel Haverty on the treatment table are Daniel Purdy and Shaw Shaw (both broken ankles) and Willo McDonagh while Keith Gillespie and Robert Bayly are suspended for this game. It really has stretched Tony Cousins' squad at a vital time in the season too.

0'
I love covering games in Athlone because you get the teams on time and have your own sheet to work from. Both teams are now in the system.

0'
Welcome to Athlone for the last of this season's El Grand Classico encounters between great rivals Athlone Town and Longford Town. Will this be the last El Classico for a while? That is the question. Longford Town fans would dearly love that because that would mean they'd be playing Premier Division football next season.
