Live Updates for Drogheda United -v- Galway United (defunct)

Updates by

91'

FULL TIME!

It's all over here.  The win sees Drogheda move ever away from poor Galway.  The Drogs fully deserved the win, regardless of the extra man.

89'
The board indicates two mins additional time as White fires well over. The pass to Mulvenna was the better option.

88'
Brennan goes close once again with a headed effort.  But defensive pressure form Browne results in a weak shot wide.

84'
Drogheda in complete control here.  Quigley crossed for White just there but the forward couldn't test Wynn.

81'
Drogheda playing really good stuff now, taking advantage of their numerical advantage.  Mulvenna teed up Lynch there but the midfielder could only volley over.

80'

Yellow Card

Galway's Evan Preston Kelly gets a yellow card for a foul on Gavin Brennan.

79'

Yellow Card

Brian Gannon is the first Drogheda name in the book.

79'
McMahon raced down the left wing just there completely free but he took a touch too many before crossing for Mulvenna.  If he passed sooner it would surley be 3-0 now but McMahon stalled and allowed the Galway defence to get back.

73'
Just before that, Mulvenna had a great chance to extend the lead.  He fired over from 18 yards after great work by Gannon.

70'

Red Card

Galway's Yob Son elbows Brennan in the face and receives a red card. It's going to be tough for Galway now.

65'
Alan McNally fires over from point blank range following a Drogheda corner. Should be 2-0.

64'
Another great Drogheda chance.  Brennan dispossessed Kim before crossing perfectly for Mulvenna. The striker headed on the edge of the box but Wynn got a hand on it.  The ball then fell to Mulvenna again but his header rolled just wide of the post.

61'
A throw in deep in the Drogs' half spells danger for the hosts as the ball bounces in the box.  Trimble eventually collects.

58'
Move of the match there! Brennan passed inside to Mulvenna who dummied and the ball came to McMahon. He spread wide to Brian Gannon who fired at goal from the edge of the box. Wynn parried with the ball falling to sub Jordan White he could head weakly at Wynn.  Great Drogheda play!

55'
Kim heads down to Cauldwell in the Drogs' box but if he had left it, Alan Murphy would have been in on goal.  Galway look a lot sharper this half.

53'
Better from Galway, Left back Stephen Walsh crossed well but Murphy could only head wide from 15 yards.

51'

Substitution

Drogheda Sub - Jordan White comes on as Dinny Corcoran makes way. I'm a bit surprised by that....

47'
Doesn't appear to any changes for either side at the break.

46'

Second Half

Galway get us back underway

45'

Half Time

Padraig Sutton blows his whistle for the break.  Drog looking good but this one isn't over by any means.

44'
Lynch and McMahon are dominating the midfieold now and pulling all the strings here.  Lynch played in McMahon who crossed well but Galway cleared through Stephen Walsh

43'
Oooh so close for Corcoran. Got on the end of a McMahon freekick and clipped the ball goalwards but the effort was inches wide. A second before half time would put Mick Cooke's men in a great position here.

42'
Mulvenna smashes a volley over form the edge of the Galway box after a prolonged spell of pressure.

40'
Drogs finishing the half off well but Galway still posing problems on the break. Kim going close this time but his effort from outside the box is wide of the Drogheda post.

36'
Kim whipped in a dangerous free there but Dave Rogers clears for a corner.  Nothing comes of it though as Trimble catches.

35'
Drogheda still struggling under corners.  In the last few minuites they've failed to clear two sufficiently.  They escape on both occasions however.

33'
A hairy moment for Drogheda's Steven Trimble there. He came to catch Eric Brown's high ball from a freekick and missed it completely.  Brennan was there to shepard it out for a goalkick however.

31'
A half chance for Galway there as Alan Murphy chased after a long ball.  By the time he got to it he was almost on the endline and he could only volley over from an impossible angle.

29'
If Mulvenna had controlled Brennan's long ball there, it could have been two for the hosts. Instead he opted to let the ball bounce and Wynn was able to collect.

26'
Gannon and Walsh have been having a good tussle so far. The former was deemed to have  been fouling there.  The freekick gives Galway the chace to clear the danger.

24'
Another cross from Gannon, this time well caught by Winn.  Drogheda getting an edge now though Galway's Alan Murphy looks lively.

23'
Before the goal went in, I was about to say a lot of Drogs' attacks coming from the wings.  Lynch and McMahon spreading the ball wide every chance they get.

20'

GOAL!

Goal. Drogheda lead! It was a fantastic move. Stephen Quigley weighted a perfect pass into the path of Tiarnan Mulvenna who raced into the box and rolled it past Conor Winn.

18'
Chances coming thick and fast now. Gavin Brennan crossed low and hard for Drogs but winger Brian Gannon couldn't reach it and Stephen Walsh watched it roll out.

16'
Kim has just shown us what he can do! Capitalising on a Quigley mistake, he raced into the box and pulled back for Murphy. The striker shot low, but Trimble got down well to save.

15'
Better form the hosts. Corocoran nearly got on the end of a long ball by Hand but Wynn came racing out to collect on the edge of the Galway box.

12'
Jinlu Kim with his first shot.  Beat Philip Hand to a dropping ball in the Drogs' box but volleyed over.

11'
Corner for Bohs as Stephen Walsh blocks Brian Gannon's cross from the right.  Gavin Brennan gets a head on it but his effort is well over.

7'
That chance produced a corner which Drogheda did not look comfortbale defending at all.  Gary Kelly eventually blazed over.  Galway on top.

6'
First shot of the game sees Galway's Bobby Ryan fly past Stephen Quigley but his shot was well saved by Trimble.

3'
..and Job Son starts in defence actually with Kim on the right wing.  Very open so far. Ball switching between sides in midfield a lot so far.

2'
As expected, McMahon goes into midfield for Drogheda, with Quigley right back. For Galway, Ronan Cauldwell partners Alan Murphy in attack

GAME ON!

And we're underway!

0'
Another loss for Galway and you would expect that would be it for Sean Connor's men.  At the same time, a win would mean they are only 3 points behind Drogheda and that would no doubt give the Tribesmen a huge confidence boost.  All to play for!

0'
New names on the Galway side with Yob Son and Jinlu Kim in for Mikey Gilmore and the suspended Eduardo Dusi.  Apparently they're two new Korean signings.  We shall have to wait and see if they can be the saviours for Sean Connor's men...

0'
Drogheda show one change wfrom the side which lost out narrowly to Rovers last Friday - it's Dave Rogers in for Mark O' Brien.  Despite what the teamsheet indicates, I suspect Rogers will go into defence with Stephen Quigley, with Peter McMahon in centre midfield alongside Lee Lynch.

0'
Greetings from Hunky Dorys Park for this bottom of the table clash. Goes without saying how important this fixture is both sides as Drogheda chase down UCD, and Galway hunt Drogs.  Team line ups are coming at you now! Kick off is 30 minutes away!
