ATHLONE TOWN

Athlone Town will look to break their Women’s National League duck when they welcome Treaty United to Lissywollen on Saturday evening (kick-off 7pm).

Tommy Hewitt’s side have been competitive in their opening league games, especially at home where they held Wexford Youths scoreless until late in the game.

A tough lesson was learned at the hands of Peamount United last week, however, as the champions were ruthless in dishing out an 8-0 hammering in Greenogue.

Athlone aren’t the first team, nor will they be the last, to suffer at the hands of the Newcastle side and they’ll be intent on putting the result behind them.

The visit of an in-form Treaty United side will represent another tough challenge for a young Athlone side, however.

Athlone have not provided team news but they have no suspensions to contend with.

TREATY UNITED

Treaty United have set their sights on uncharted water as they bid to make it three wins on the bounce for the first time in Athlone.

The Limerick club tasted defeat in their opening league game away to Peamount United but have been flawless ever since.

A 2-0 win away to DLR Waves was followed up last week with a 2-1 victory at home to Bohemians.

Dave Rooney took charge both years the previous incarnation of the club, Limerick, competed in the league but never managed two wins on the bounce.

Three points in Athlone would be further unprecedented territory for the Munster club and they will have fewer better opportunities than against a side yet to pick up a point.

Maggie Duncliffe and Aoife Horgan were on target at the Markets Field last week as Treaty edged out Bohemians.

It was the second successive game in which Horgan found the net and there are high hopes for the teenage on Shannonside.

"Everything is natural to her. The coaches at Listowel Celtic did an incredible job with her and she has really come on. I think she can go right to the top in the game," Rooney told the league website.

"We've got some really exciting players in our Under-17s and some who have come into our senior team and Aoife is definitely in that bracket.

“She is someone who has so much potential and will only get better by playing in this League."

Treaty United have not provided team news but they have a clean slate of suspensions.
