ATHLONE TOWN
The Town go into their third game of the Women’s National League season looking for their first win of the season when Shelbourne visit Lissywoolen on Saturday (kick-off 7pm).
Despite their results so far, Tommy Hewitt’s side have impressed in their opening encounters.
Athlone did well against current WFAI Cup holders Wexford Youths and conceded just a solitary goal to lose 1-0 last weekend.
They faced Galway in Eamonn Deacy Park on Wednesday night and despite the 3-0 score line in favour of the home side it took a lot of work by Billy Clery’s side to break them down.
Shelbourne bring another tough test for the young side however, and unless they can pull off some form of an upset it looks like they will have to wait a bit longer to pick up their first points of the season.
SHELBOURNE
The Reds have been in flying form since the start of the season, as would be expected from one of the top teams in the country.
They came very close to dropping points against DLR Waves last weekend and only for a Pearl Slattery winner deep into injury time they would have come away with just a point.
A 3-0 win followed on Wednesday night against Bohemians and with the Dublin side on top of the WNL currently, they’ll be looking to stay there with a win over Athlone on Saturday.
