Fornalik disappointed with friendly loss

Poland manager Waldemar Fornalik believes that his side should not have lost their match against the Republic of Ireland in the Aviva Stadium on Wednesday night.

His side dominated the opening stages of their friendly tie but couldn’t make their dominance count and fell behind when Ciaran Clark fired past Artur Boruc after 35 minutes.

“It was not a game we should have lost,” Fornalik said, “especially taking into account the first half, but unfortunately the Irish team were more effective.

“The 2nd half was not as good as the first half, the Irish team were becoming more threatening and we were getting worse and worse.”

Fornalik said that his sides second half game plan didn’t work and Ireland congratulated Ireland on the win.

“Our purpose was to increase our offensive power in the second half however it didn’t go according to plan, and the game ended the way it did.

“Ireland scored two goals and we would like to congratulate Ireland on the victory.“

Fornalik was also quick to praise the Polish fans that packed the Aviva Stadium on Wednesday, creating a noisy atmosphere and he was sorry that his side couldn’t win the game on the night.
