Long wait for Pilkington debut set to continue

Anthony Pilkington will not make his debut for the Republic of Ireland after all this Wednesday after the Norwich City attacking midfielder limped off with a hamstring strain in the Canaries scoreless draw with QPR at Loftus Road earlier this afternoon.

The FAI confirmed Pilkington will now not join up with the squad in Malahide tomorrow, while wide man Aiden McGeady is also ruled out with an ankle injury.

Blackburn-born Pilkington, whose grandmother was from Dublin making him eligible for Ireland, had received his Irish passport on Thursday and spoke of his excitement of linking up with the squad.

A further update will be released by the association later if replacements are called up for the duo.
