Behan set to be unveiled as new Cork striker

While Tadhg Purcell was extensively linked to a move back to Cork City at the beginning of the week, ExtraTime.ie understands Denis Behan will be unveiled later today as the Leesiders’ new signing.

Behan will rejoin the club on a one-year deal after spending the last two seasons with Limerick.

The former U21 international had given his word to Munster Senior League side College Corinthians, but they have now given him permission to make the switch back to the League of Ireland and his first club in the domestic game.

Behan played for City between 2002 and 2009 before moving to Hartlepool United, where he enjoyed mixed spells in and out of the team.

Cork are expected to confirm the move on their website later today.

He is not the only face reported to be back at Turner’s Cross however, with Dan Murray also close to signing a new contract. Last year’s club captain had struggled for most of the season with injury and due to work commitments, it was believed he wouldn’t be retained.

Murray, though, looks set to sign a new deal after Waterford United confirmed the signing of Gavin Kavanagh, who was first choice centre-half for much of the season at Cork in 2012, last night.

Purcell, meanwhile, will not be signing after talks, allegedly over pay, broke down.
