The injury woes continue to build for the Republic of Ireland ahead of the upcoming World Cup 2014 double-header against Germany and Faroe Islands after Sean St Ledger was all but ruled out of Friday’s game at Aviva stadium with a hamstring injury.

St Ledger was taken off an hour into yesterday’s game between Leicester City and Bristol City and an FAI statement overnight said ‘it looks unlikely that he will be able to play in the Germany match but he will report for assessment’.

James McClean, meanwhile, will have a scan on a groin injury tomorrow morning following Sunderland’s defeat at Manchester City. The scan will be carried out on Wearside before a decision is made as to whether he will join the rest of his teammates at their north Dublin base.

In addition, Glenn Whelan limped off in the first half for Stoke City in this afternoon's game with Liverpool at Anfield with a hamstring injury and will also have a scan on Monday.

Kevin Doyle had already been confirmed absent yesterday morning after picking up a quad injury in training with Wolves on Friday, with David Meyler and Robbie Brady both being called up.
