Wolves boss rules Doyle out of qualifiers

Kevin Doyle looks set to miss out on the Republic of Ireland's World Cup 2014 double header against Germany and Faroe Islands next week after picking up an injury in training this morning with Wolves.

Manager Stale Solbakken said that the striker was 'definitely out' of the games after picking up a knock in the team's final session before facing Blackburn Rovers in the Championship tomorrow, according to the BBC.

Doyle came off the bench to score the late winner against Kazakhstan in the campaign's opener last month.

Earlier, the former St Patrick's Athletic and Cork City striker told wolves.co.uk that he was looking forward to playing Rovers and was yearning for more goals. 

“I’m enjoying it, definitely,” he said of the season to date on the club's official website. “It’s up to other people to judge on how well I’m playing but I think that we have all been enjoying the winning feeling again. It makes it easier for everyone to play well.

“We have had clean sheets and everyone seems to be gelling. Obviously we are playing in the Championship and not the Premier League which makes things a little bit easier.

“But, on the other hand, it’s still difficult. This is a more even League whereas the top players in the Premier League will punish you. 

"I’d like to have scored some more goals – I seem to be hitting the post and crossbar a lot recently but hopefully the goals will come in the length of the season.”

Meanwhile, Solbakken also confirmed that fellow Ireland international Stephen Hunt is to undergo surgery on his long-standing hip problem next week.
