Motion of no confidence in Sean Connor

Moments after their 1-0 defeat to Drogheda United, the GUFC management committee announced that they had passed a vote of no confidence in manager Sean Connor.

The defeat increases the likelihood of relegation to the First Division as the crisis surrounding the Tribesmen grows. Many viewed the Drogheda game as a must win, and as such the Management Committee waited until after the final whistle before acting. In a statement on galwayunitedfc.ie the Management Committee stated: “In the interests of giving our players every support to secure a result in Drogheda this evening, we have deferred issuing this statement until after the match.”

The vote was taken on Tuesday the 19th and it yielded a unanimous decision and as such Sean Connor’s future now rests with the board of directors as Galway look to salvage something from this season.

Sean Connor has only secured five points all season, his last point was gained at Hunky Dorys Park. The financial crisis at Galway has seen them lose a lot of their best players and at one point their entire squad was placed on the transfer list.

The former Dundalk manager is still under contract and the proverbial ball will be in his court as to whether he accepts the motion of no confidence and walks or if he will stay and fight for his job. But the predicament surrounding Terryland looks far from over.
