Leinster Senior League Side Sacred Heart take on First Division outfit Limerick FC in the third round of the FAI Ford Cup at Tallaght Stadium on Sunday afternoon. (kick-off 3.30)

Tallaght club Sacred Heart make it to the third round after an impressive 2-1 win over fellow amateur side Carlow FC and are sure to make the most of this rare run in the FAI Cup.

Sacred Heart certainly have an element of the unknown about them and this may cause Limerick some difficulties.  Furthermore, the Tallaght side won’t be holding anything back and are sure to give it their all against the Shannonsiders.

However, Limerick will go into this one as heavy favourites and can feel very confident of progressing to the next round. The Munster side have been in very impressive form lately and are unbeaten in their last eight games. They won six of those and scored ten goals in that time so the task facing the amateur side is certainly an uphill one.

Limerick’s last outing was a 1-1 draw at home to Cork City but before that they went on a run of four straight wins. Defender Pat Purcell scored two goals during that period and no doubt Limerick will look for his leadership from the back again on Sunday.

Cup games are often nice distractions for clubs and with Limerick going strong in the league they are sure to target this one as a good opportunity to blood some new faces, but they will also be determined to progress to the next round. Sacred Heart have done well to make it this far but won’t have come up against a side with Limerick’s ability and should struggle to extend their cup run any further.
