Drogheda United -v- Galway United

Friday night represents the ending of a poor season for both Drogheda and Galway, however the visitors have the opportunity to redeem their season as they go into the playoffs while the home side go down.

The Tribesmen so far have been victorious in all three meetings between the sides this season, a 1-0 win in Drogheda the result when the Westerners last visited the North East. For some time now this fixture was viewed as a dress rehearsal for the playoffs, but Drogheda’s dip in form coupled with Bray’s upsurge has seen the Boynesiders replaced by the Seasiders.

A shock win over Sean Connor’s former employers Bohemians will see Galway come into this fixture on a massive high and another win will set them up nicely for the visit of Bray Wanderers to Terryland. Drogheda however were soundly beaten by a defiant Shamrock Rovers in Tallaght last week and with nothing to play for morale will be at an all time low in the Drogheda camp.

Sean Connor will be boosted by the return of Karl Sheppard and Stephen Walsh who both comeback after suspension while the will be without midfielder Ciaran Foley for the remainder of the season through injury. Stephen O'Donnell may feature at some stage on Friday as he makes his comeback after knee surgery.

Drogheda United will be without the suspended duo of Corie Traecy and Ryan Brennan, both of whom were dismissed against Shamrock Rovers last Friday while Darren Meenan is also suspended after picking up the maximum number of cards. Glen Fitzpatrick is back in contention for a starting spot while Mick Daly is out with a shoulder injury.

Despite having nothing to play for Drogheda manager Bobby Browne wants his side to at least finish the season on a positive note, We will be looking to end on a positive note, “there has been a lot of negativity around the club recently and we just want to finish on a positive, the players have been working hard for it and they have always kept their heads high which is all I can ask.”
