San Diego Wave hello for returning Irish striker Kyra Carusa

Fresh from her World Cup exploits, Republic of Ireland striker Kyra Carusa has signed for her home town club San Diego Wave FC for the remainder of the National Women’s Soccer League 2023 season.

Carusa was signed as a free agent having left London City Lionesses – where she scored once in eight games - after the conclusion of the league campaign in England.

The 27-year-old was born in San Diego and graduated from Stanford University and Georgetown. She began her professional career with Le Havre in France before a very successful spell in Denmark with HB Koge. She won back-to-back titles with the club and played in the Champions League. She scored 30 goals in 57 appearances.

She started all three matches for the Girls in Green in Australia during the recent World Cup and has 15 full international caps for Ireland with two goals.

“We started following Kyra closely this offseason, and we are excited to welcome her to the club,” said San Diego Wave FC Head Coach Casey Stoney on sandiegowavefc.com.

“She will bring healthy competition to our forward group and provide the team with much-needed depth for the rest of this season. She’s just coming back from the World Cup and eager to make a difference to help her hometown make a run deep into the playoffs.”

Two of her new teammates - Emily van Egmond (Australia) and forward Sofia Jakobsson (Sweden) – will face off against one another in this weekend’s bronze medal match in the World Cup.
