Irish under-21 international Lee O'Connor joins Partick Thistle on loan from Celtic

Partick Thistle have announced the loan signing of Republic of Ireland international Lee O’Connor until the end of the season.

The defender will make the short journey cross town from parent club, and current Scottish Champions, Glasgow Celtic to line out for The Jags who sit in 9th place in the Scottish Championship.

O’Connor began his professional career with Manchester United having been noticed playing for Villa FC in his native Waterford. He went on to play up to Under-23 level with The Red Devils.

In September of last year Celtic signed the 19 year old to a four year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Having represented the Republic of Ireland at Under 17, Under 19 and Under 21 level, O’Connor made his debut for the senior international team last November in a friendly victory over New Zealand at the Aviva Stadium.

The loan move is still subject to Scottish FA approval but O’Connor could feature in Partick’s next game away to Arbroath this Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
