Ireland under-21 winger Gavin Kilkenny signs multi-year contract with Premier League Bournemouth

Republic of Ireland under-21 winger Gavin Kilkenny has signed a new multi-year deal with English Premier League side Bournemouth.

The 19-year-old made his senior bow for the Cherries in their Caraboa Cup win over Forest Green Rovers in August before being named on the bench for a league game with Tottenham Hotspur.

Former St Kevin’s Boys youth Kilkenny was promoted from the under-21s to the Cherries senior squad during the summer on the back of an impressive showing in the club’s pre-season fixtures.

He capped off a string of impressive outings by scoring in a friendly match against Olympique Lyonnais and was retained with the senior squad when the campaign kicked off.

Kilkenny made his Ireland under-21 debut in a 1-0 Euro 2021 qualifying win over Armenia at Tallaght Stadium in September.

"I’m delighted that Gavin has signed a new long-term contract at the club,” said Bournemouth chief executive Neill Blake.

"He has huge potential and has made real progress over the past six months to become a regular around the first team squad.

"Gavin fully deserved his first team debut earlier this season but this is just the start for him, and we look forward to him continuing his development under Eddie Howe and his coaching staff."
