Jonny Addis scored a wonderstrike from his own half as Ballymena United moved up to fifth in the Danske Bank Premiership with a 4-2 victory over Larne at Inver Park.

It’s 23 years to the day since David Beckham of Manchester United famously chipped Wimbledon’s Neil Sullivan from his own half and Addis needed just six minutes to mark the occasion with his own contribution.

Newly-promoted Larne had hammered Warrenpoint Town 6-0 on the opening day and went into their first home fixture back at the top level brimming with confidence.

They were stunned early on as midfielder Addis seized on a loose ball just inside the centre circle and sent a booming first-time shot that caught Larne keeper Conor Devlin off his line.

It wasn’t the only spectacular finish of the afternoon, however, as both Cathair Friel and Jude Winchester produced strikes for the highlight reel in a comfortable victory.
