Goalkeeper Sava signs new Dundalk contract

Goalkeeper Gabriel Sava has signed a new one-year deal with Dundalk.

The 30-year-old has won league titles with the Lilywhites in each of the past three seasons, although he has played the understudy role to both Peter Cherrie and current number one Gary Rogers.

Sava looked to have forged his way into Stephen Kenny’s starting eleven following a string of high-profile mistakes from Rogers in September as the Romanian begun crunch end-of-season encounters against Cork City and Zenit St. Petersburg.

However, an error of his own versus the Russian giants gifted Rogers a reprieve as Sava spent the final games of Dundalk’s prolonged season amongst the substitutes once more as the Lilywhites conceded their FAI Cup crown and bowed out of Europe.

The former Drogheda United, Bray Wanderers and Monaghan United custodian becomes the eleventh confirmed member of the champions squad for the 2017 season.
