Boylan signs two-year deal with Sligo Rovers

Sligo Rovers have announced that Belmullet defender Gary Boylan has signed a two year contract. Boylan has been one of the shining lights in what is regarded as a poor season for the Bit O'Red and this prompted the board to sign him up.

Speaking to the club's official website about signing his new contract Boylan said, “I am very happy to have signed. It’s really nice to be sorted here for the next two years. It is great for me to have that stability. This is the club I want to be at. I’m just going to give everything I can now, keep my head down and work hard.”

Boylan has made twenty two appearances for Rovers this season and has played in a number of positions in midfield and defence. Boylan has improved this season and has shown fans his abilities.

Speaking about this season, Boylan said, “I definitely have enjoyed being able to play regularly this year. It has not been a successful year for us but I have enjoyed playing. I have made over 20 appearances and every game I am learning. I am learning from the gaffer, from Alan Rogers and from all the other players.

“They have fantastic experience. I definitely think that we can do well in the future. We have had a bad season but it happens to the best of clubs. We just have to put in hard work to make sure that we get through it. Hopefully next season we can turn it around and be at the opposite end of the table and have a good year.”

Speaking at the contract signing manager Micky Adams was full of praise for Boylan.

“He still has a lot to learn first and foremost. But he is a very wholehearted player and is very versatile. He is not the finished article by any means but there is enough ability there to work with for the future. It is good to get players on longer contracts, it gives them stability in life and they can concentrate on playing their best football.

“He has still got a bit to do though. There are things to improve on like we have been getting him in the gym to improve physically but the potential is there in him.”

Boylan is the first player signed up by Sligo Rovers for the next season and fans will be hoping more will be signed up as the season ends.
