Kenny content with a point

Stephen Kenny declared himself happy with a point after his Derry City side held on for a draw away to Bohemians at Dalymount Park on Friday night. Although his side were dominated by their hosts for much of the game, Thomas Stewart did fire them into an early lead, before Killian Brennan equalised for the home side.

Speaking to Extratime.ie after the game, Kenny said: "Considering the way the game went it wasn't a bad result for us. We came here wanting to win the game. We had a great start and we got the lead, but we needed to see the period out after the goal and we didn't. That was disappointing."

Kenny was quick to heap praise on his former side, stating that this was as well as Bohs have played against Derry since he returned from Scotland last year. Kenny said: "Bohs played well tonight, they were very quick. That is probably as good as Bohs have played against us in the past year. But we can play better as well. The draw is not the worst, but we really have to improve. Mark Farren could have won it for us in the second half when he went through one on one but it was a good save from Brian Murphy."

The draw leaves both sides on four points after the opening two games of the season, and although his side were second best for long periods of the game, Kenny maintained that he had not sent his team out to merely secure a draw. He said: It was all about getting the three points to get ahead. We don't want to be chasing. We didn't want to lose ground on Bohs. It will become a good point if we can win our home games. But we've a tough one with Cork City coming to the Brandywell next week. If we can win that, then it will have been a decent start to the season for us."
