John’s Biography

John, a former Ireland U21 international who plays at left back, started his League of Ireland career at Waterford United in 1997. He helped The Blues to win the First Division title in 2002/03 and amassed over 200 league appearances in his nine seasons at the club.

John transferred to St Patrick's Athletic in July 2005 and made his Pats debut against Shelbourne at Richmond Park on 8 July. He spent the next three years with the Inchicore club, making 65 league appearances, before moving on to league newcomers Sporting Fingal in July 2008. In his three seasons with the Ravens John made 41 league appearances and was part of the team that won promotion to the First Division in 2009. He was also part of the matchday squad when Fingal won the 2009 FAI Cup, beating Sligo Rovers in the final.

Having spent two and a half seasons with the club, John signed for Pat Scully at LImerick FC in January 2011. He made 22 league appearances for Limerick that year but in December 2011 he signed up for a second spell at Waterford United. John made 16 league appearances in his first season back in Waterford colours and added 12 more in 2013. In 2014 John combined his playing duties with that of U19s coach while also making 6 league appearances for the Blues. At the end of the season, John retired from playing.
