Tommy joined Limerick FC from junior club Fairview Rangers at the start of the 2005 season. He made 72 league appearances for the club over the following two seasons and netted 14 league goals.

Tommy was at the Shannonside club until the summer of 2009 at which point he went back to Fairview Rangers and was part of their squad that reached the second round of the 2010 FAI Cup when they were beaten 2-1 by Tullamore Town.

In January 2011 Tommy signed for Mike Kerley at Athlone Town in a player/coach capacity and made 27 league appearances that season, scoring twice. He made a further 12 league appearances in 2012 and scored in his last game before announcing his retirement, a 2-0 win over SD Galway at Lisseywoollen on 29 June 2012.

In July 2012 Tommy hung up his boots and took up a coaching role at Limerick FC.
