David’s Biography

David Crawley is a left-back who began his professional career at Manchester City. In 1997 he returned to Ireland citing homesickness and signed for his hometown club Dundalk FC.

In 2001 he helped the Lilywhites to promotion as First Division champions and was made club captain at the beginning of the following season. In 2001/02, David led Dundalk to a famous FAI Cup victory as Dundalk beat Bohemians 2-1 in the final. However, that success was soured somewhat as the club suffered relegation from the Premier Division.

For the shortened 2002/03 season, David moved south to sign for Shelbourne and this began an five year stint at Tolka Park that yielded tremendous success. David won league titles with the Reds in 2003 and 2004, adding a third title win in 2006. David also played in 23 of the Reds’ 24 European games during that period.

But the party was over for Shelbourne. At the end of '06 the club imploded financially and an entire squad left, including David who returned to Oriel Park, signing for Dundalk in January 2007. In the next two seasons he made 62 league appearances for the Lilywhites and won a second First Division title there in 2008.

2009 saw a return to Shelbourne, where David made a further 27 league appearances as Shels were defeated by Sporting Fingal in the end of season promotion play-off. It proved to be his final year of league football and in the close season David hung up his boots, choosing to return to Dundalk and played GAA with Sean O'Mahoney's.
