Conor started out at Dublin club Cherry Orchard and Joined UCD on a football scholarship at the start of the 2005 season. He spent three years with the College before a move to Derry City in December 2007. His stay at the Brandywell was brief and in July 2008 he transferred to Scottish side Kilmarnock.

Conor made his debut for Kilmarnock on 9 August 2008 in a 1-0 win over Hibernian and he went on to score 17 times in 65 league appearances during his two and a half years at Rugby Park. In January 2011 he moved south of the border to sign for Premiership side Wigan Athletic. He spent almost two years at Wigan without quite establishing himself. He score once in 32 league appearances but moved on in August 2012 when he signed for Championship side Derby County.

He made his Derby debut against Bolton Wanderers on 21 August 2012 and bagged his first goal against Watford on 1st September.

Conor played for Heart of Midlothian when they played St Patrick's Ath in July 2017.
