Gareth’s Biography
Gareth, who is a former Irish youth and under 21 international, first made an impression in the Derry side as a teenager and has the ability to play on either the right wing or in centre midfield. Between 2001 and 2009 McGlynn made over 200 appearances for the Candystripes
He made his debut for Derry in April 2001 in a 1-0 home victory over Kilkenny City with his first goal for the club arriving 10 days later during a 3-3 draw against Shelbourne. That goal made him the 100th player to score for the club in the League of Ireland.
In 2010 Pat Fenlon signed Gareth for Bohemians and in 28 league appearances the Donegal man scored five goals as Bohemians finished second to Shamrock Rovers.
In January 2016, Gareth returned to Derry City and signed for the 2016 season under Kenny Shiels.
Gareth retired at the end of the 2016 season after 359 appearances and 46 goals over 12 seasons with Derry.
