Derek’s Biography
Derek played underage football with Cherry Orchard before earning a scholarship at UCD and joining their League of Ireland side in 2004.
He made his debut for the Students against Shelbourne in June 2005 and made 72 league appearances with the club over the next four seasons. In late July 2008 Derek signed for First Division Dundalk and made his debut as a substitute against Wexford Youths on 31 July '08. He went on to make 11 appearances, scoring three goals, for the Co Louth club as they won the First Division title that year.
In 2009 Derek moved on to Shelbourne where he signed for Dermot Keely and appeared 27 times for the 'Reds' that year, contributing three goals. Shels finished as runners-up in the First Division that year, losing to Sporting Fingal in a promotion play-off.
For 2010 Derek rejoined his former UCD boss, Pete Mahon, signing for St Patrick's Athletic. He made 56 league appearances and scored thirteen times during his two years at Richmond Park before leaving the club at the end of 2011.
In February 2012 Derek had a short spell on trial at Drogheda United but did not sign a contract with the club and instead joined LSL side Crumlin United where he played the 2012/13 season. In July 2013 Derek signed for Johnny McDonnell at Shelbourne. His first outing for the Reds came in a 2-1 win over Cork City at Tolka Park on 12 July and he made 13 league appearances over the final months of a season that saw Shelbourne relegated to the First Division.
Derek left Shelbourne at the end of the 2013 season before returning to league football in the summer of 2014 when he signed for Keith Long at Athlone Town. His first appearance for the Midlanders came in a 6-0 win over Drogheda United on 13 June and he scored twice during the club's brave but ultimately unsuccessful battle against relegation. During the 2015 campaign Derek made 24 appearances in just 28 league games for Athlone, but the midlanders failed to gain promotion out of the First Division.
In December 2015, Derek reunited with Pete Mahon at Drogheda United where he made 22 league appearances during their 2016 First Division campaign, scoring once, in a season thats saw the Drogs promoted to the Premier Division via the play-offs. Doyle joined Leinster Senior League side Glenville at the beginning of 2017.
