Michael Funston

The Letterkenny man signed for Finn Harps from Bonagee United at the start of the 2004 season. After Felix Healy’s appointment as Manager in that same year, Funston quickly became a permanent fixture in the side, alongside Anthony Gorman in the middle of the pitch. He picked up a First Division Championship medal in his first season at the club. He went on to spend seven seasons at Finn Park and was the club's top scorer in 2009. He had played over 200 games in the blue shirt by the time he signed for Dungannon Swifts of the Irish League in January 2011 and after eighteen months with the Swifts Mark returned to Harps, signing for Peter Hutton on 1 June 2012.

Michael made 7 league appearances for Finn Harps in the second half of 2012 and in 2013 he added 24 more to his career tally, also scoring three league goals. He again bagged three league goals in 2014, this time from 23 league appearances.

Michael made a further 26 league appearances for the club during the 2015 season, scoring three times in the process, before also playing in all four play-off games as Finn Harps were promoted to the Premier Division after overcoming UCD and Limerick. And in 2016 Michael made 23 Premier Division appearances as Harps retained their spot in the top tier with a tenth place league finish. After 13 seasons, 335 appearances and 33 goals Michael retired in June 2017.
