George’s Biography
George started his career at English side Port Vale who he joined as a 15 year-old. He first broke into the senior side in 1998 and made 34 league appearances over the next four seasons, but having been dropped from the first team George left the Valiants at the end of 2001/02 and returned to his home town, Cork, signing for Cork City that summer.
George scored on his debut for Cork City, a 3-0 win over Shelbourne on the opening night of the 2002/03 season. He would be one of City's most enigmatic performers over the next five seasons, scoring 23 times in 150 league appearances, and winning a League title with the club in 2005. In 2006 George fell out with City boss Damien Richardson and in July he went on trial at Ipswich Town.
Due to transfer rules George wasn't able to formally sign for the East Anglian club until January 2007 but he went on to make 17 league and cup appearances despite being sent off on his Ipswich debut, an FA Cup game against Watford in January '07. In August of that year he went to Brighton & Hove Albion on loan, remaining with the club until the end of December.
On 31 January 2008 George returned to Cork City, signing for new manager Alan Matthews and making his first appearance in a Setanta Cup win over Dungannon Swifts on 26 February. He played the first half of the season at Turner's Cross but signed for Tranmere Rovers on 9 July. He made just 6 league appearances there but it was a troubled time for George and his contract was terminated on 13 February 2009. That same month he returned to Ireland and signed for newly promoted Dundalk.
George made his debut for the Lilywhites against Bohemians on the opening night of 2009 but he was only with the club for four months, moving on to sign for Yeovil Town in July '09. He made 12 appearances for the Glovers but his contract was not renewed on it's expiration on 23 December. The next stop on George's career path was an abortive spell at Cork City under Roddy Collins. The club folded before a competitive ball was kicked and on 8 April 2010 he signed for Waterford United.
It would be another divided year as George spent the first half of the season at Waterford, but returned to Cork City in July, making his reappearance against Finn Harps on 23 July. In 2011 George was on the move again, spending time on trail at Brentford before signing for Conference side Cambridge United. In October 2011 he signed for DPMM FC of Brunei but in September 2012 he was back in England, signing for Dover FC. George's retirement from the game was announced on Christmas Eve 2012.
But never say never; George wasn't quite finished yet and in December 2016 he signed for Munster Senior League side Rockmount.
