Ross ’s Biography
Ross began his professional football career with Millwall in England before – following three league and three FA Cup outings – being released from The New Den at the end of the 2007/08 season. He returned home to play for Cobh Ramblers, making his debut as a substitute in a 1-0 home defeat to St Patrick's Athletic on 12 July. However, six goals in 14 league outings were not enough to save Stephen Henderson’s side from relegation at the end of the 2008 season.
His impressive performances did earn him a move to Sporting Fingal, however, and he scored three goals in the first half of 2009 before moving back to the top flight in the July transfer window when going on loan to Drogheda United. Ross was an ever-present between then and the end of the season and his performances helped the Drogs to survive in the Premier Division.
Ross looked set to make that move permanent in January 2010 but instead switched to Dundalk a month later. He made his league debut for the Lilywhites in their opening-day win at Bray Wanderers on 5 March and made 63 league appearances over the next two seasons, scoring eight league goals.
On the 30th December 2011, Ross joined Sligo Rovers and went on to make 27 league appearances in the 2012 season that saw the Bit O' Red win their first league title since 1977. In 2013 Ross won an FAI Cup winner's medal, coming on as a substitute as Sligo beat Drogheda United in the final. By now Ross was operating mainly as a left back and in 2014 he made another 16 league appearances before leaving the club at the end of July 2014 having made a total of 64 league appearances.
The next stage of Ross's career began days later when he signed for John Caulfield at Cork City. The move was confirmed on 30 July and Ross made his City debut at Turner's Cross against Dundalk on 1st August. He went on to make 9 league appearances, scoring once, as City were pipped to the league title by Dundalk.
Ross became a key part of the Cork side as he made twenty-seven league appearances, scoring three goals in the process, as Cork finished runners-up to Dundalk once more. He was also a part of the team that played in the FAI Cup Final but Dundalk defeated them by a one-nil victory after extratime.
Gaynor then moved to Linfield in the close-season and would later be a part of the Linfield squad that played Cork City in the First Round of Qualifying for the 2016/17 edition of the Europa League.
