Michael came through the youth system at Drogheda United, and broke into the first team in 2007. He spent three years at United Park, making his senior debut in a League Cup game against Shamrock Rovers on 8 May '07.

Michael made occasional starts for the first team over the following seasons without ever nailing down a regular place in the team. He left the club at the end of 2009 and signed for Dermot Keely at Shelbourne on 21 February 2010. He made a total of 11 appearances for the Reds that year and sat on the bench for the club's Leinster Senior Cup final win over Bray Wanderers in August.

He left Shelbourne on 17 August 2010.
