Owen’s Biography

Owen is a former Northern Ireland U18 and U21 international who started his career at Sligo Rovers in 1997 before going on to make 55 league appearances at Sheffield Wednesday between August 1998 and February 2003. After a short loan spell at Hull City he signed for a similarly short period at Sheffield United before moving on to Stockport County.

Owen then had two years at Bradford City (36 league appearances) followed by another two years at Dunfermline Athletic (34 league appearances) after which he returned to the League of Ireland in 2008, signing for Stephen Kenny at Derry City.

His stay at the Brandywell was short and after 16 league appearances he left Derry in September 2008. At the start of the 2009 season he signed for Paul Cook at Sligo Rovers, making 27 league appearances and scoring once. He was released at the end of the season and went on to play for Portadown and FC New York in the USL Pro League.

In August 2011 he returned to Derry City, signing once again for Stephen Kenny. His first game back in a Derry shirt was a substitute appearance in the EA Sports Cup semi-final win over Sligo Rovers on 23 August. The following year Owen made 17 league appearances under new boss Declan Devine but left the club under a cloud after being substituted against UCD on 21 September 2012.
