Michael is a left full back who played for Clonmel and Carrick United, helping Carrick to win both the Waterford Premier League and the Munster Junior Cup. He also represented the Republic of Ireland as a Junior International.

In June 2010 Michael signed for Stephen Henderson at Waterford United and made his league debut for the club in a 3-0 win over Mervue United at the RSC on 25 June. He missed just one of Waterford's remaining league games that year, making 16 league appearances in his debut season. Michael made a further 22 league appearances in 2011 but left the club at the end of the season to return to Carrick United.

In January 2013 Michael returned to the RSC for a second spell at Waterford United and he made 13 league appearances before injury put a premature end to his season.
