Neil ’s Biography

Neil developed with St Josephs in Athlone before playing with Athlone Town's underage teams. He went on to play with Belvedere in Dublin and signed for St Patrick's Athletic in February 2010. He made his league debut for Pats as a substitute against Shamrock Rovers on 18 March 2011.

Neil's only goal for St Pats came in the 2-1 defeat to Cork City in the quarter-finals of the 2011 EA Sports Cup and he made 13 league and cup appearances that year. He also picked up a Leinster Senior Cup medal, making the starting eleven for the club's 2-0 win over Bohemians in the final.

In January 2012 it was confirmed that Neil had signed for Aaron Callaghan at Bohemians. He made just 4 league appearances for the Gypsies before moving on to Athlone Town in July 2012. He went on to make eight league appearances for the Midlands club, scoring once, over the remainder of the 2102 season. In 2013 Neil made 22 appearances in the league as Athlone Town went on to win the First Division title under Roddy Collins. He also scored once, in a 1-0 win over Cobh Ramblers, and re-signed for a third season at Athlone under new boss Mick Cooke in December 2013 as Athlone prepared for their return to the Premier Division.

Neil's contribution to Athlone's top-flight return was hampered by injury. He made just 6 league appearances in the opening half of 2014 and left the club on the eve of the summer transfer deadline citing unresolved differences with members of the club's executive committee.
