Shane’s Biography

Shane played underage football with Tipperary side St Michael's FC before signing for Pat Dolan at Cork City in July 2004. He made his league debut against Bray Wanderers on 25 March 2005 but made only one more appearance for the club before signing for English side Reading FC alongside Kevin Doyle in June of that year.

Shane stayed at Reading for six years, scoring 46 goals in 174 league appearances, transferring to West Bromwich Albion in the summer of 2011. He went on to nineteen times in eighty-one league appearances for the Baggies across three seasons before he joined Hull City in January 2014. He finished the 2013/14 campaign with four goals in fifteen league games for the Yorkshire side.

Shane was on the move soon again as he joined Southampton in August 2014. In June 2020, Shane extended his Southampton contract for a further two years. In February 2021, Shane signed on loan for Bournamouth.

Shane made his international debut for the Republic of Ireland against San Marino in February 2007 and has since scored 16 times in 63 appearances for his country ahead of the 2016 European Championship. He was included in the Republic of Ireland's final squad for the 2016 European Championship.
