Dave started his career at Mayfield United. In 2000 he earned a contract with Wrexham FC but after two years at the Welsh club, and having made just 6 league appearances, he was released and retuned home to sign for Cork City in the summer of 2002.

Dave struggled for form at Turner's Cross and soon went on loan to Cobh Ramblers under manager Dave Hill in 2003. He signed permanently for the club in 2004 and spent three seasons at St Coleman's Park, making 79 appearances and scoring sixteen goals, once scoring a double hat trick in an 8-1 win over Monaghan United.

At the start of 2007 Dave signed for Waterford United and spent two years at the club before leaving at the end of 2008. However, in June of 2009 he returned to the 'Blues' for a second spell. In 2010 Dave went back to Cork, signing for Tommy Dune Cork City Foras Co-op side, making 14 appearances in their First Division campaign.

In 2011/12 Dave was back at Mayfield United and took part in the Club's FAI Cup run that year. In 2013/14 Dave played with Avondale United.
